About this place
When faced with a list of whiskies, it can be fun to browse the menu for clues to their flavours. At Bar Peacoat, the selection ranges from whiskies described with notes of gentle citrus and green apple to one marked by the rich sweetness of raisins. Glenfiddich 12 Year is characterised by soft green-apple and citrus notes, while Glendronach 12 Year is noted for its full raisin sweetness. Glenmorangie Signet, meanwhile, comes with tasting notes evoking cocoa cream, orange, pastry and marron glacé. Even if you are new to whisky, mentioning a flavour that appeals can be a useful way to find a dram to suit you.
Some visitors say they enjoyed whisky with snacks such as smoked cheese; others recommend the house-made roast ham. If you would like something more substantial to accompany your drink, pizza is a handy option. The Gorgonzola and prosciutto pizza is presented as a companion to drinks, and comes in a 25-centimetre full size or a smaller 17/2 size measuring 3 centimetres. The simple Margherita is available in the same sizes. Choose the former for a more substantial snack, or the smaller size if you want something lighter alongside your first drink.
Whisky is not the only option. Cocktails include a Screwdriver made with fresh orange and a Green Tea Fizz with matcha liqueur and fresh lemon soda. There is plenty to choose from whether whisky is the focus of your evening or you would rather start with a cocktail. One visitor who came with a whisky-loving friend wrote that they enjoyed learning about the different whiskies from the staff. The range of bottles, snacks and drinks makes the bar an interesting place to settle in; it is described as quiet and relaxed, suited to taking your time over each glass.
